Klassiekers deel 155: Balderdash

Het was een buitenbeentje in de punkcollectie, eind jaren ’80. Victims Family maakte artyfarty punk, bijna jazzy, weet-ik-veel. Maar hun eerste album Voltage and Violets vond ik in ieder geval prima. De band werd extra leuk toen ik er ook een zwart-wit-shirt van bemachtigde, ‘met gasmaskers en alles’. Ik vond dat shirt altijd goed passen bij de lange manen die toen nog over mijn schouders zwiepten. Stiekem vond ik het het rustigste nummer van de plaat ook meteen het leukste nummer. Het was een aanklacht tegen de opgeblazen onzin (‘balderdash’) die de rockindustrie voortbracht, ook toen. Lekker.
