Waarom ook Rushkoff zijn uitgever verlaat

Douglas Rushkoff, die goede man van ‘programmeren of geprogrammeerd worden‘, verlaat zijn uitgever. In Why I Left My Publisher in Order to Publish a Book legt hij uit waarom.

The model is simple: work the concept with John, write the book, print and digitize it, and then sell it. No distribution, no marketing. Just put the link online and let people pay by credit card, paypal, or whatever method they choose. No middlemen, no markups, no returns. The book comes out two months after I’ve finished it, instead of two years. The public gets the book or ebook for half of what a “regular” book would cost—and the writer and publisher actually earn more, not less, per actual book sold.

Het artikel verdient het om gelezen te worden door iedereen die geïnteresseerd is de toekomst van uitgeven. Het is goed mogelijk dat meer en meer schrijvers zullen kiezen voor dit model. Want zeg nu zelf, dat OR Books ziet er toch gewoon sympathiek uit? 16 euro voor een paperback, een tientje voor het e-boek, twee tientjes voor een combi. Prima hoor.
